Ecological Complexity Lab Elucidating the complexity of ecological systems

Our new research, "The interplay between ecological networks drives host-plasmid community dynamics", is now available on PLOS Computational Biology!

In this study, we investigate how ecological network structure shapes the dynamics of plasmid spread in microbial communities. Using a network-based modeling approach, Ying-Jie, with the help of our collaborators, show that the interplay between host interaction networks and plasmid transmission networks fundamentally governs whether plasmids persist or are lost from communities. These results offer new theoretical insights into the evolution of antibiotic resistance and horizontal gene transfer in microbial ecosystems.
